Border Collies - The right puppy

Consider the Border Collie

The border collie is perhaps the most demanding of all dog breeds which may be why it is also perhaps the most rewarding of all breeds. A border collie properly bred with health and temperament in mind, raised with kindness and firmness, well trained and in tune with his person is one of the best companions in the world. A poorly bred border collie or WSD whose development and training has been neglected, whose environment is lacking in interest and stimulation and who has inadequate opportunities for physical and mental exercise is the nightmare dog of the dog rescue services.

BORDER COLLIES AS PETS

The right dog in the right place

The Dog's Homes are full of border collies, working sheepdogs and collie crosses whose owners did not think hard enough about whether a demanding and athletic canine genius was really the right choice for a busy, first time owner, with three small children in a home with a little garden in a built up area of the town.
The dogs don't deserve to be there and for some that is the end of road not through any fault of theirs but through the selfishness and short-sightedness of their owners - so please, think very hard before giving a home to this most rewarding and most demanding of breeds.
